Thandie Newton of 'Westworld' May Join the Han Solo Movie
HBO
The Han Solo movie has already started filming, with the announcement of "Han First Shot" by directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Even so, the characters surrounding sci-fi's favorite smuggler are still being cast, with another science fiction star in talks to join the Star Wars film.

According to Variety, actress Thandie Newton is likely to be cast in the film, although no other information about the role is currently known. Westworld fans will recognize her as Maeve, a host who must come to terms with how her life is a lie (though admittedly, that's half the cast of that show).

The secrecy about her Star Wars role is no surprise; the only confirmed characters so far are Alden Ehrenreich as young Han himself, and Donald Glover as young Lando Calrissian. Woody Harrelson's let slip that he's playing the Expanded Universe character of Garris Shrike, an abusive mentor figure to Han, but Lucasfilm has thus far refused to confirm that. Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke will co-star, but we've got nothing yet on that.

Rumors have circulated for awhile that a newer character named Sana Starros, who appeared in the current Star Wars comic books, will be in the movie and Newton could possibly be in talks for that. Starros is Han Solo's "wife," in that they staged a wedding as part of a robbery, although Starros would later insist they're still married and Solo would deny it.

It's possible Newton's casting could interfere with her character in Westworld season 2, which is confirmed to happen at some point. Maeve was a major part of the story, but a major part in Han Solo (like Starros) might complicate Newton's schedule. Of course, the Han Solo role could also be smaller, it's too early to tell.
