Ever since the cinematic release of X-Men: Apocalypse, the future of the franchise has been uncertain: Apocalypse received fairly disappointing reviews from critics, and its box office returns paled in comparison to those of Deadpool, leading many to wonder whether Fox would go ahead with plans for additional movies starring their newly hired stable of young actors, including Sophie Turner and James McAvoy.

According to Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner, who played Jean Grey in Apocalypse, fans have nothing to fear—the next movie (currently known as X-Men: Supernovais still in pre-production, and will be filming later this year. Speaking on the red carpet at the recent BAFTAs awards ceremony, Turner gave a rundown of the projects she'll be working on in the coming months:

Opening quote
"We're about to start shooting the next X-Men, we've just finished shooting Season 7 of Thrones, and I've got a couple of movies to do before X-Men starts. And then we go on to Season 8! So I've got a busy year lined up."

This lines up with recent comments from Bryan Singer, who's stated that he has time to shoot the pilot for Fox's new X-Men television show because his next movie won't begin filming until September. It's believed that the new X-Men movie will see the team traveling into space to fight extraterrestrial foes and meeting the Shi'ar Empire, a piece of X-Men comic book mythology that hasn't been explored as much. Fans speculate that this could even mean an eventual second attempt at portraying the famous "Dark Phoenix Saga" on the big screen.
