Ben Affleck Reportedly Wants to Quit Playing Batman Altogether
Warner Bros.
It really wasn't too shocking when we learned that Ben Affleck was walking away from the director's chair on The Batman, but now there are rumors that the actor doesn't even want to play the caped crusader in the beleaguered superhero movie.

According to Collider's John Campea, three separate studio sources have claimed that Affleck is no longer interested in playing Batman. The sources claim that Affleck and Warner Bros. are currently in talks that would see him exit the role, and though he reportedly would like to leave before The Batman, the studio is apparently trying to convince him to stay on for the standalone movie before he takes his leave.

While these are just unconfirmed rumors, we can't say we'd be all that surprised if they turn out to be true. Affleck was reportedly very upset over the poor reviews of Batman v Superman, even though he was often cited as being the only decent aspect of the film, and The Batman has had a nightmarish development. Affleck even recently referred to fans of Batman as a "pain in the ass," suggesting that he's either sick of playing the Dark Knight already, or that he just doesn't have the patience to deal with the massive fanbase's expectations.

Either way, we're not going to be bowled over if The Batman falls through completely and another actor becomes the DCEU's Batman after Justice League.

There's never been a set release date for The Batman, which is likely to be directed by Matt Reeves. But Affleck will still return in Justice League, which comes out November 17, 2017.
