Peter Parker Gets Rebooted Again for 'Spectacular Spider-Man' Comic
Marvel/Disney
The rebooting of Spider-Man at the movies has become a punchline, with Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland all playing the web-slinger within the past decade. But the comics have seen even more frequent changes to the character in recent years. And while it seems like Holland will stick around for a while in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, comic book Spidey is being rebooted once again.

Marvel Comics announced a new series called Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man by Chip Zdarsky and Adam Kubert, which will bring back the classic version of the hero after years of bizarre incarnations (like when he spent all of 2013 being possessed by Doctor Octopus in The Superior Spider-Man). The version of Peter Parker currently in the comics is a globe-trotting multimillionaire founder of Parker Industries, who is a little too similar to Tony Stark for many fans' tastes.

Thankfully with the new book, it seems like Peter will have his trademark bad luck and New York setting reintroduced to his life.

Speaking to EW, Zdarsky had this to say about the new book:
Opening quote
"With this book, we're using the same Spider-Man in-continuity but shifting the spotlight back to his NYC environment and supporting cast. But even though we're pushing to make it a more personal book, we're still going to have big adventures with ramifications that'll be felt in his other books. If I had, like, a true mission statement for the title though, it would be: 'Have fun, have heart, have stakes.' My personal mission statement going into the book is 'With great power comes something something I don't know I've never had power before.'"
Closing quote

Zdarsky clearly has a bit of a sarcastic streak, which will work great for Spidey, but it's good to hear him talk about making the series personal while also including some big adventures. There are a handful of spider-characters with their own comic series right now, including Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen, but as Spider-Man: Homecoming approaches this summer, some classic Peter Parker may be in order.

Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man kicks off this June, but will first have a free preview issue available on Free Comic Book Day on May 6, 2017.
