'Logan' Reveals Moody 'Found Footage' Video of X-23's Backstory
20th Century Fox
Next month's Logan is set to star Wolverine, Charles Xavier and newcomer X-23 (all played by Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart and Dafne Keen). And while we've had 17 years since X-Men in 2000 to get to know those first two, we don't know much about the film version of X-23 beyond that, like her comic book counterpart, she has identical powers (and claws) to Logan.

But a creepy new video gives us a first look into how the murderous child from the trailers became that way. It's blurry and clearly meant to evoke a home video style, but it leaves an unsettling impression that fits what we know about Logan's dark tone. The "found footage" was both tweeted out by the film's director James Mangold, and uploaded to YouTube by 20th Century Fox, with the cryptic name of "Laura.mov":

The bloody surgeries and data analyses point to some less than ethical experiments to recreate Wolverine's healing factor (and claws), although it looks much more painful and graphic than the relatively tame treatment Wolverine got from the Weapon X program. And they've clearly succeeded by the final shot of Laura slashing her own arm just to watch it heal.

It's not clear who's taking the video footage, but it's likely the same people who'll be sending a group of cyborg mercenaries called The Reavers after X-23 in the film. But Mangold did a good job of establishing why Laura will be so angry come this March, and why she has every reason to be running from and bloodying the Reavers sent her way.

Logan comes out on March 3, 2017.
