Latest 'Power Rangers' Trailer is Full of Superhero References
Lionsgate
As more footage from the upcoming Power Rangers movie comes out, it's becoming increasingly clear that despite the gritty appearance it might give off, the film first and foremost wants to be fun. And since the original TV show was all about cheesy fun, it's good that the movie would rather be The Avengers than The Dark Knight.

And Power Rangers certainly seems to be taking a page from superhero movies, because they bring that up a few times during their newest trailer, which is presumably their final one since we're so close to the release date:

From the Spider-Man-esque giant leaps, to yellow ranger Trini (Becky G) bragging about being a superhero to her concerned family, references to the genre are everywhere, and Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks) looks like she'll be chewing the scenery like any supervillain should. And most directly, RJ Cyler's Billy Cranston (the character was indeed named after Bryan Cranston) asks "Are we more like Iron Man or Spider-Man?" Bryan Cranston's Zordon is unamused.

The trailer came out after a peculiar use of Facebook Live by the movie's official Facebook page, which gave fans about two hours to give the video 75,000 likes/reactions. Not much else happens in the video beyond a countdown, but it was successful, as you can likely tell by the trailer you just watched.

Power Rangers comes out March 24, 2017.
