The showrunners of Marvel's Inhumans series, which is set to premiere this September after a two week IMAX showing, clearly had a certain question on their minds: When casting a villainous main character named "Maximus the Mad," what's another show with a famously psychotic villain they could look to? And thus, Game of Thrones actor Iwan Rheon (who played Ramsay Bolton) has gotten the part.

In a press releaseMarvel announced the casting and shed some more light on Inhumans, which will follow a race of superhumans living in the hidden community of Attilan, and led by their (mostly) silent king Black Bolt. Maximus, as the classic "jealous brother of the king" archetype, is described as "a clever and charming Inhuman" with a fierce devotion to his people and a desperate desire to become the new king. Black Bolt has not yet been cast, although Vin Diesel has expressed interest in the past.

Rheon, despite being quite a nice fellow in real life, may have a typecasting problem after scarring so many Game of Thrones viewers as the gleefully sadistic Ramsay. But after his performance in the Emmy-winning "Battle of the Bastards" episode, it's clear that he's very good at being bad. Marvel's Head of Television Jeph Loeb is excited to have the Bastard of Bolton onboard:
Opening quote
"Iwan's ability to be charming, roguish, and still completely unexpectedly dangerous were all the different sides we needed to bring the character to life. We're thrilled to have him on board."
Closing quote

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fans will already be quite familiar with the MCU Inhumans, who've played a major role in the story. Although this new show won't be a spinoff, since it will follow the classic Inhumans characters instead of the ones from AoS. Marvel's Inhumans will focus on Black Bolt and his royal family, which typically includes Medusa, Crystal, Gorgon, Triton, and Lockjaw the giant bulldog. And of course, Maximus.

Marvel's Inhumans begins on ABC in September 2017, after a never-been-done IMAX screening of the first two episodes in theaters starting Labor Day.
