New 'Iron Fist' Featurette Sheds Light on the Plot and Danny Rand's Powers
Marvel's Iron Fist is drawing closer to its Netflix debut, but the specifics of its plot have so far remained shrouded in mystery. This is likely a deliberate decision to keep the show's twists and turns a secret, but while the trailers that Marvel has released thus far focus on action and fight scenes, a new featurette narrated by Finn Jones (who plays the titular Iron Fist, better known as Danny Rand) finally delivers some key plot information that fans have been waiting months to learn.

Anyone who was worried that Danny Rand might feel like a Tony Stark rip-off (the character is a genius billionaire playboy philanthropist in the comics) will be pleased to learn that it seems, at least at first, the Immortal Iron Fist isn't going to be living a life of luxury in his new show.

It's great that Marvel has decided to keep Danny's story grounded, and not allow this member of The Defenders to instantly ascend to the wealthy lifestyle that his character enjoys in the comics. Forcing Danny to fight to regain his family fortune means a lot more street action, which is really where this character shines.

It seems that Marvel is fully embracing the magical and mystical elements of its comic book universe now, with Iron Fist being the only Defender who doesn't gain his powers through scientific means. The featurette focuses on the kind of Eastern philosophy that underpins Doctor Strange, but there'll be a lot less dimension-warping this time around.

In the MCU, some ancient teachings let you manipulate reality, while others, it seems, are useful primarily for getting really angry and punching things.
