'Logan' Director Explains Why Wolverine Never Wore His Classic Costume

Finally, we're getting some answers as to why Hugh Jackman's Wolverine never suited up in his famous yellow costume from the comics, despite its iconic status in the X-Men comics. He wore matching black outfits with everyone else in Bryan Singer's original X-Men films, but he's otherwise been very casual.

Screenrant interviewed James Mangold, director of Logan and The Wolverine, as to why we never got to see Hugh Jackman go full leotard. The short answer is that it would be out of character for the movie version of Logan:
Opening quote
"Logan is the least narcissistic of all the superheroes, any kind I can think of - Marvel, DC or anywhere else. What I mean by that is, who puts a special branded outfit on when they do good deeds? And why? The only reason you do it is so you can have some sort of trademarked claim and get credit for what you did. Nothing seems less Wolverine-like than the desire to put on a trademarked outfit, particularly canary yellow, and kind of prance about doing good deeds and have people go, 'Oh my God! It's The Wolverine!'"
Closing quote

Mangold obviously never saw Jackman perform in The Boy From Oz. Jokes aside, Mangold delivers a solid point, Logan does not seem like the type to want to be seen in a skintight black and yellow costume, let alone fight in one. And since Logan will be a much darker movie than the previous films, that suit would be even less likely to fit in. Although it gets a shout out, much like it did in a deleted scene from The Wolverine.

Could you imagine Wolverine wearing his canary yellow suit while fighting Sabretooth in this scene from X-Men Origins: Wolverine?
