Dubbing What R2-D2 Was Actually Saying in 'A New Hope' Is Quite Amusing
Ever since the debut of A New Hope, R2-D2 has been largely remembered as a lovable droid sidekick that beeps and boops, but it's clear in the films that R2-D2 is quite the rhetorician. Most of it had to be deciphered by C3PO, but thanks to a new video from Auralnauts, we can now hear a cheeky recreation of what his dialogue (and voice) might sound like:

It starts off very matter-of-fact, but R2's personality rapidly comes into focus: from his casual back-and-forth with 3PO to the very confused exchange he has about Obi-Wan not remembering him at all (despite kinda being involved in all three prequels with the Jedi Master). Also enjoyable is the little slap Han gives Luke at 12:55 and its added sound effect.

What's refreshing is that the video takes a less obvious route: rather than giving him an Arnold Schwarzenegger voice or turning him into a fountain of obscenities, it's more understated, like the infamous Vader Sessions. Voiced by actor Scheiffer Bates, this R2 makes for an amusing good time as he and 3PO now more fully resemble an old bickering couple, as well as a couple of lifelong friends.
