‘Nightwing’ Movie Announced with the 'Lego Batman' Director Attached
DC
With several DC films already scheduled after Justice League, including Aquaman and the messy The Batman, Warner Bros. is now also planning a live-action film starring none other than Batman's protégé, Nightwing.

The Hollywood Reporter writes that the film is set to be directed by Chris McKay, whose credits include The Lego Batman Movie and several episodes of Robot Chicken. This might mean that we can expect a more playful tone reminiscent of The Lego Batman Movie, something the DCEU could use after the grim and solemn Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The screenplay will be penned by Bill Dubuque, best known for writing The Accountant starring Ben Affleck, and The Judge starring Robert Downey Jr. So it's safe to say Dubuque knows a thing or two about writing for superhero film stars.

Nightwing is Dick Grayson, the first of many to wear the Robin costume, all grown up. Grayson was originally created by Bill Finger in Detective Comics #38 in 1940. For those unfamiliar, he was born into a family of acrobats and upon his parents' untimely murder, he was taken under the wing of Bruce Wayne to become Robin. As he grew up, he eventually left that job and took up his Nightwing persona in 1980s Teen Titans comics. Since Ben Affleck is playing an older version of Batman, Dick Grayson growing up into an adult Nightwing fits the timeline well.

We can only hope that Nightwing doesn't turn into the crapshoot that has become The Batman. Between Ben Affleck stepping down from the director's chair to calling his fans a "pain in the ass", a pick-me-up like good-humored Nightwing could be good for DC.
