Director Boon Joon-Ho has built his reputation on big, dark spectacles, like Snowpiercer and The Host. His latest project, Okja, looks like it might have a slightly more fantastical and fairy-tale vibe, but darkness is still lurking around the margins. Check out the trailer below!

The film tells the tale of a creature named Okja, who, along with a young Korean girl named Mija, is on the run from a corporation that seems to be run by none other than Tilda Swinton. Though Joon-Ho has had a talent for creating horrifying monsters in the past, he says that this one is different in an interview with EW:

Opening quote
"It's a very shy and introverted animal. It's a unique animal that we've not seen before."
Closing quote

Perhaps this is Joon-Ho's version of ET: it has a young kid, extraordinary creature, insidious scientists, and a potential for wonderment and magic. We'll have to wait and see.

Okja is set to be released on Netflix on June 28th. It may also have a limited theater run—more details to come.
