Marvel's 'Inhumans' Announces Anson Mount Will Play Black Bolt
Marvel
ABC's hotly anticipated Marvel's Inhumans is shaping up nicely, as the superhero show has just cast its biggest player, although not its most talkative one, Black Bolt.

Actor Anson Mount will portray the silent but deadly king of the Inhumans, in what is sure to be a leading role with the fewest spoken lines in recent TV history. For those not sure what we're talking about, Black Bolt's superpower is his devastatingly powerful voice. A mere whisper from his lips is powerful enough to level a city, and his voice at its fullest could potentially destroy a planet. Because of this, he almost never speaks, and lets his wife Medusa communicate his thoughts for him.

And according to Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb, it was Black Bolt's silence that attracted Mount to the role:
Opening quote
"Anson loves the challenge of playing a character who will only communicate silently. His enthusiasm mixed with his imposing almost regal persona made it easy to see why he is our Black Bolt."
Closing quote

Mount is best known for his lead role as Cullen Bohannon on the AMC western series Hell on Wheels. He'll join Game of Thrones villain Iwan Rheon (who played Ramsay Bolton) in the new show, who was cast as Maximus the Mad, Black Bolt's evil brother who (like any good villain) desires the crown for himself. The show will follow the royal family of the Inhumans, a group of superpowered folks living in the isolated community of Attilan, who get their powers from alien experiments on their ancestors.

Marvel's Inhumans has a unique premiere arrangement, as it will screen its first two episodes in IMAX theaters on September 1 before continuing onto ABC on September 26, 2017.
