Logan is a throwback to old westerns in a lot of ways, be it Shane or Unforgiven, so it makes sense that some fans have begun to clamor for a more old-school look. Film junkies will know that a series of publicity photos came out last year (shot by director James Mangold himself) that depicted the film in beautifully composed black and white images, leading some to speculate that Mangold had perhaps shot some sequences of the film that way.

After viewing an advanced screening of the film a few weeks ago, Outer Places can confirm that that theory proved untrue—Logan is full-color. But a few recent Twitter exchanges with fans show that Mangold seems to have every intention of putting together a black and white version:

There is some precedent for releasing a film in both color and monochrome, as George Miller did with Mad Max: Fury Road with a black and chrome version.

The reviews coming out for Logan from critics have been glowing to say the least—even we called Logan 'the perfect mix of bloody, brutal, and melancholy." Would we see it again in black and white? You bet we would.
