The Han Solo Movie Adds in 'The Wire' Star Michael K. Williams
HBO
Seeing as the upcoming Han Solo spinoff film will follow the young smuggler through his early adventures, it makes sense that directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller would tap into the greatest crime show on television, The Wire, to build their story. And The Wire's Michael K. Williams is now in final talks to join the film's cast in an undisclosed role, according to Variety.

Williams has starred in a number of critically acclaimed HBO series over the years, most notably his roles as Omar Little on The Wire and Albert "Chalky" White on Boardwalk Empire. Most recently, he co-starred in HBO's The Night Of alongside Rogue One's Riz Ahmed. He's also played supporting roles in Assassin's Creed, Triple 9, and When We Rise.

Like many other actors cast in the Star Wars spinoff, there's no indication on what Williams' role will be. Confirmed roles include Alden Ehrenreich as Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, and it's speculated Woody Harrelson's role will be as Han's mentor Garris Shrike. For unconfirmed roles, Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke, Westworld's Thandie Newton, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge will all appear.

The Star Wars: Han Solo movie is currently slated for release on May 25, 2018.
