First 'Power Rangers' Clip Shows the Teens Discovering Zordon's Ship
Lionsgate
The new Power Rangers movie will be here before you know it, with tickets already on sale and the film hitting theaters at the end of this month. So it's a little surprising that we are only now getting a first clip from the upcoming nostalgia trip. But hey, better late than never.

In the clip, the teens (and future Rangers) explore the spaceship that will soon be revealed to be Zordon's command center. Despite the trailer's displays of colorful cheesiness, this new clip plays out like a horror movie, with the five shining their flashlights in the dark, hiding at the slightest sound they hear, and one even being snagged away in an effective jump scare. It's definitely not what we were expecting, and shows that the movie isn't going to just be a hollow rehash of a cheesy '90s TV show.

Of course, if the Power Rangers clip begins like a horror movie, it certainly doesn't end like one. Nobody eats the teenagers, and the horrible monster behind the jump scare turns out to be the miniature robot Alpha 5, voiced by comedian Bill Hader. It actually seems like Alpha 5 was more afraid, as he shouts out "You're real!" as he gets in the Yellow Ranger's face. The introduction of Zordon is likely to follow, who looks scarier here than in the original film, but is still a friendly, giant face.

The film stars Naomi Scott, Becky G., Ludi Lin, RJ Cyler, and Dacre Montgomery as the Rangers, with Bryan Cranston as Zordon and Elizabeth Banks as big baddie Rita Repulsa.

Power Rangers opens on March 24, 2017.
