'Life' Extended Clip Shows a First Contact Gone Terribly Wrong
Colombia Pictures
For whatever reason, the upcoming movie Life has received very little buzz. And for a sci-fi thriller with an all-star cast including Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson, and Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds, that's surprising. But a newly released clip may help build some excitement for the under-the-radar sci-fi flick.

The film doesn't exactly chart new territory, as it's about a space exhibition that discovers life on Mars which, you guessed it, turns out to be murderous. So whether the movie succeeds or not will depend on how they handle that situation, what design they go with for the life form, and how they ultimately make it different from similar films. In the new clip, we get a pretty good look at the alien, which turns out to be made of cells that contain both muscle and nerve, making the organism "all muscle, all brain."

And it doesn't take long for the alien to use its combination of brains and brawn for destruction, as Ariyon Bakare's character painfully discovers:

While it's not as gory as Alien: Covenant looks to be, the close up of a hand getting crunched by the firmest handshake on Mars is still a tough sight to watch. Judging from this clip, the movie looks like it's going to be scarier than we had originally assumed, with some serious body horror elements to boot. So who knows? If the rest of the film is as compelling and frightening as this clip, we may have another Alien on our hands.

Life hits theaters on March 24, 2017.
