Deadpool and Cable Will Lead the Upcoming 'X-Force' Movie
20th Century Fox
The X-Men movie series seems to have a pretty exciting future ahead of it, with a variety of different projects currently in the works. But the corner of their universe that has fans most excited seems to be their R-rated films that began with Deadpool, and recently continued with Logan. Both films have re-energized the fanbase, and will soon culminate in what could be the ultimate R-rated X-Men movie: X-Force.

And now, we've got a better idea of what we should expect from the X-Force film when it's ready. Longtime X-Men producer and writer Simon Kinberg sat down with Deadline to discuss the franchise's future, and in doing so he confirmed that both Deadpool and Cable (who's set to debut in Deadpool 2) will be the leads of X-Force. He also hinted that the film will be R-rated, meaning that superhero fans may finally get a worthy R-rated team up film that's based on a classic comic book. Here's Kinberg's quote on the matter:
Opening quote
"Deadpool 2 is going into production this year. Then X-Force which is a combination of Deadpool, and Cable – they're like the black ops of the X-Men. They're much darker and have an R-rated decibel. There are other X-Men characters coming into X-Force at different times in the comic, but it's separate from X-Men."

For those worried that Deadpool is being forced wherever the character may fit, Kinberg insists that he's focusing on how the movies fit best together, and that he's not rushing the next Deadpool appearance. He also likes the variety of tones the series is taking lately, from the comedies like Deadpool, blockbusters like X-Men: Apocalypse, and grittier films like Logan.
Opening quote
"There is a larger architecture to tell these stories in. I talk to the studio all the time about this and there is a plan for how these movies can connect and be a part of a larger narrative. It's something that's fun, exciting and it will be interesting to see how we marry the different tones that we've been generating in these standalone movies of the X-Men universe. But we go into making the best movie we can. It's not just about a Colossus or Deadpool cameo. Connecting all of these movies will happen when it organically makes sense. These movies aren't simply being built as stepping stones to a larger story. Each one is wholly enclosed and a movie worth seeing."
Closing quote

While we're psyched to see Deadpool and Cable lead the X-Force in a movie, we still don't know who's going to play Cable. The latest reports claim that Stranger Things' David Harbour is currently the frontrunner, while Kyle Chandler, Pierce Brosnan, and Michael Shannon have also been rumored for the role. Whoever he ends up as the cybernetic Nathan Summers, let's just hope Cable doesn't take too much crap from Deadpool.
