Live Action 'X-Men' Show Gets an Official Name of 'Gifted'
20th Century Fox
A live action X-Men show was announced at the beginning of the year (separate from current X-Men show Legion), and brought together its cast and a full series order from Fox. But details were vague, and it was seemingly content with being called the "Untitled X-Men Show" for the past month.

Until now, at least, where the show about "gifted youngsters" announced it'll just be called Gifted. It could possibly be a working title, but it still beats "Untitled" and it's from an official source: longtime X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner unveiled the name on Twitter, along with a photo of the cast.

Presumably taking its name from the Charles Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters, the show is set to follow a "gifted" mutant child and their normal parents discovering and joining an underground network of mutants. Chances are, they'll do that while on the run from Sentinels and an anti-mutant government, because this is X-Men.

Where the show Legion is technically X-Men but chooses to stick to its self-contained and experimental stories, Gifted looks to be much more standard X-Men fare, containing established mutants like the teleporting Blink (Jamie Chung) and the magnetic Polaris (Emma Dupont). Also included in the cast are Amy Acker (Angel) and Stephen Moyer (True Blood), who will star as the on-the-run parents, and Joseph Morgan (The Originals) as another character original to the show. The classic robot Sentinels will appear as well.

The Gifted pilot will be written by showrunner Matt Nix and directed by Bryan Singer, who's directed the majority of X-Men films. It's expected to begin filming this month, so it's good to see that Donner has the cast all in one place.
