‘Power Rangers’ Clip Shows a Zord Crash and Alpha 5's Signature Line
Lionsgate

When the Power Rangers reboot was first announced, the fan response was iffy. The 90s show about teenagers with attitude decked out in color-coded spandex has two completely different audiences: children who love the alien-fighting teenagers and the adults who grew up loving them. This leaves room for two very different movies, and it's been great seeing that the new Power Rangers seems to lean toward campy fun rather than a gritty movie just for adults.

Another official clip has been released, this one showing the Black Ranger Zack (Ludi Lin) struggling to operate the enormous Mastodon Zord. After failing to figure out the manual and then screaming a lot, Zack almost runs over the other Rangers and the movie's smaller version of robot Alpha 5 (voiced by Bill Hader), who delivers his signature "Ay-yi-yi!"

With the silliness that made the show huge and star-studded casting of the supportive characters, director Dean Israelite looks to be morphing those two possible films into one all-around crowd pleaser. The supportive characters are portrayed by SNL alum Bill Hader, Wet Hot American Summer's Elizabeth Banks, and Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston. Since today's kids aren't likely to know these three actors (unless they enjoyed Cranston's 20 minutes in Godzilla), the casting is probably to please the 90s kids.

Between the "Ay-yi-yi" and the cast's recent interview with original Pink Ranger Amy Jo Johnson, the movie is staying connected to the TV show, and that can only be a good thing. All the recent clips and trailers suggest the movie will provide the same campy style that attracted fans in the 90s with a modern edge for kids who've grown up watching Marvel movies.
