It's been nearly three months since the world lost Carrie Fisher, but the sting from her passing still hasn't faded. Things have quietened down recently with regards to Leia Organa's role in the future of the Star Wars saga, with Disney presumably having reached a decision after rejecting the possibility of an all-CGI recreation of Fisher for the untitled Episode IX.

But while Lucasfilm won't be pulling a Tarkin with General Organa any time soon, this isn't because Fisher herself was opposed to computer recreations of her likeness. In fact, according to Rogue One director Gareth Edwards, when Carrie Fisher saw her cameo at the end of the film, she was seriously impressed with the work that had been done:

Opening quote
"We knew it was a really important moment and we wanted Carrie to be happy, so Kathy [Kennedy, Lucasfilm's President] went to her house with her laptop when we felt the shot was close, if not finished. We had about two weeks left, and Kathy went around her house and everyone was waiting to hear. [Kathy] said she showed it to her and [Carrie] thought it was footage. She didn't realize it was CGI. She thought we had some footage. She didn't remember the take and thought we had manipulated a take from the original film. But they told her it was all computer generated and she was really impressed. We were all just so pleased she approved it."
Closing quote

For those of you who need a refresher, here's the scene with Leia from Rogue One:

What's comforting is the fact that Lucasfilm wasn't about to go ahead with the appearance if they didn't have Fisher's blessing. It seems that the studio isn't about to start mistreating Princess Leia, and it backs up Lucasfilm's own claims that the studio will respect the memory of one of the most important actors in the Star Wars franchise.
