Ridley Scott Hints the Next 'Alien' Film is Called 'Alien: Awakening'
20th Century Fox
Alien: Covenant is still a few months away, but director Ridley Scott has already been hard at work cranking out the next one. He'd recently announced that the sequel to Covenant (which is itself a prequel to the original Alien) was already written, and Scott has apparently just let slip its title: Alien: Awakening.

Speaking to Fandango while at SXSW, Scott was asked about the timeline for all the Alien films, since as we just said, the new ones are all prequels to the original series. He mentions Prometheus from a few years ago, along with Covenant, and then something we hadn't heard about before. Here's Scott's full quote, take note his ordering of the films is slightly weird:

Opening quote
"It will go Prometheus, Awakening, Covenant.. fairly integral where this colonization ship is on the way...."
Closing quote

At this point, Covenant star Katherine Waterston (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) jumped in to shout "You're giving away too much!" and more vaguely confirmed that there will be more Alien movies coming. Scott, tempering himself, continues: "If this is successful, and then the next one, and then there will definitely be three more."

As for sticking Awakening in between the other two films, that could be one of two things: either Awakening will actually take place in between those films on the franchise's timeline (which would be confusing, but Prometheus already made things confusing), or that's just Ridley Scott being 79 years old and screwing up the order. Either way, expect it to look more similar to classic Alien than Prometheus ever did; it's what Covenant is clearly doing Scott has a mind to keep going in that direction, which is good news for fans of the gory sci-fi horror series.

Scott also mentioned that Covenant would be much gorier than Prometheus ever got, something that's increasingly obvious from the trailers and other SXSW footage being shown (a new creature called the "mouthburster" will make an appearance). So that's, again, good for fans of the old films, and presumably horrible for any characters who kick the bucket that way.
