Warner Bros. Wants to Shoot Another DC Film This Year
Warner Bros.
With Aquaman being pushed to Christmas 2018, and Ben Affleck's The Batman pushed to who knows when, Warner Bros. has a problem with their DC schedule: after Justice League this November, they have zero films planned for 2018 until Aquaman at the year's end. Since their main competitor Marvel can crank out three films per year, there's a risk of Warner Bros. falling even further behind unless they work fast.

According to Variety reporter Justin Knoll, working fast is the plan. To make sure Aquaman isn't their only film for an entire year, Knoll reports that Warner Bros. is going to bump up one film's production to later this year, although it's not yet clear what film that is. The five contenders seem to be Gotham City Sirens, The Flash, Green Lantern Corps, Suicide Squad 2, and the live action Justice League Dark film.

Gotham City Sirens would be a spin-off to Suicide Squad focusing on Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, that would see her teaming up with other Gotham villains Poison Ivy and Catwoman. David Ayer is slated to direct that one, and it's rumored that Megan Fox would be coming onboard to play Ivy. Interestingly, Ayer doesn't seem to be directing Suicide Squad 2 after helming the first one, and there's little indication that the script for that film would be ready soon.

Beyond that, there's The Flash starring Ezra Miller, which doesn't have any director attached to it and has already been delayed before. A Justice League Dark movie, entirely separate from the recent animated film, has been shifting around Warner Bros. for a long time. Guillermo del Toro was originally behind that one, but he's since departed the project. And lastly, there's Green Lantern Corps, currently scheduled for 2020, which has David S. Goyer writing and potentially directing as well.

It's entirely possible that nothing will come of these plans, since the DCEU schedule hasn't been rock solid lately. But out of all of those five, either Gotham City Sirens or Green Lantern Corps seem most likely, since they have DC veterans like Ayer and Goyer behind them. If the scripts are rushed out to get into production on time, then the writing could end up messy, but messy writing hasn't stopped Ayer's Suicide Squad and Goyer's Batman v Superman from making money regardless.

And even if they do fall behind, there are tons of other DC films planned post-2018, such as Nightwing, Shazam, Black Adam, Cyborg, a Justice League sequel, etc. It sounds like DC and Warner Bros. have a huge expanded universe in their heads, they just have to actually make all these movies.
