'Rick and Morty' Streams the First Episode of Season 3 for April Fools
Adult Swim
Like many shows on Adult Swim, part of Rick and Morty's appeal seems to be how much they screw around with their audience. Even before April Fools' Day, the show wasn't above serving their audience a genuine rickroll while promising new footage from Season 3. So what did the show actually do yesterday, on April Fools?

They promised a long-awaited first look at Season 3 that evening, and then they actually did it. After no new episodes since October 2015, they live-streamed the very first episode of the new season, "The Rickshank Rickdemption," on a loop until midnight EST on the Adult Swim website. It was the ultimate April Fools' prank - take a cynical, jaded audience who's getting tired of waiting for new episodes, and then show them a new episode on the day they're most expecting to be let down again.

The episode directly continues the cliffhanger from the end of Season 2, with Rick Sanchez trapped in an interdimensional space prison, and then goes off on its own from there. After such a long wait time, it's everything you'd want from a Rick and Morty episode, and it's good to see creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland making some headway after being pretty harsh on themselves for the delays.

Sadly, it only lasted as long as a real April Fools' Day prank and is no longer streaming, so there's no official way to watch it right now in case you missed it. That said, nothing's ever gone forever on the internet and a quick trip to Google could probably dig something up (even though in Bird culture, that would be considered a "dick move"). And of course, it'll come back with the season's official premiere later on.

Rick and Morty will return this summer, according to the show's official Twitter.
