Kylo Ren May Get a New Look in 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi'
Lucasfilm/Disney
Kylo Ren's character design in The Force Awakens was undeniably cool (except for maybe the hair), but he might be leaving that look behind for a new one in Star Wars: The Last Jedi at the end of this year.

Makingstarwars.net reports that Kylo's obsession with his grandfather Darth Vader will start to look more like a direct impersonation in Episode VIII, with the villain replacing his ratty, afghan-like cloak for a shiny new black cape identical to the one Vader wore. There are even rumors that it is Vader's old cape, although that one must be in pretty rough shape by now (we saw how the helmet turned out in The Force Awakens).

Kylo's also expected to receive changes to his mask, which he'll probably be taking off less now that his face is covered with a massive scar, but the changes are considered minor, and largely are expected to amount to a simple omission of the battle marks and scuffs his helmet had in the previous film. The scar seems to be the most significant change, as Making Star Wars suggests that this parting gift from his fight with Rey is a sizable one.

One of Kylo's biggest character traits was "wants to be like Darth Vader," to the point that he spoke to Vader's burnt up helmet, so it makes sense that the design is shifting even more toward Vader's iconic, villainous appearance. Kylo's Vader-based story arc is certainly interesting, but it could potentially be a whole lot more interesting if Vader himself somehow appears in the film.

There are constant rumors that he will, though none are substantiated, and many even suggest that the prequels'
Hayden Christensen will return for the role - especially since he'll be appearing at Star Wars Celebration this year for the first time in 15 years. We don't think we're out of bounds in suggesting that literally no one wants to see that happen, but a Vader return as a force ghost or something that doesn't involve the Anakin actor would certainly be welcome in the main saga.

The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15, 2017.
