If there's one character from Marvel's enormous back catalogue that fans have been more eager to see in live action than any other, it's Squirrel Girl. Hilarious and adorable, she's become a fan favorite of Marvel's recent crop of more diverse heroes, which led to rumors that we might see her in a New Warriors TV series.

Well, it turns out that the rumors were one hundred percent right, as Marvel has announced that the New Warriors, which is now in development for Freeform, will feature none other than Squirrel Girl herself.

It sounds as if this new show will build upon the core Marvel platform of relatable superheroes with believably crummy home lives. There's also a sense here that Marvel is looking to show up DC's Powerless, a sitcom set in Gotham City that's had a lackluster reception so far. Considering the modern state of comedy shows and their fondness for the mockumentary film style, New Warriors is perfect for adaptation—in the comics, at one point the New Warriors are involved in an MTV-style reality show.

It's still early to judge the show's prospects, but we're looking forward to seeing more humor coming from the Marvel Universe. Guardians of the Galaxy proved that even obscure characters can kick ass, and the addition of Squirrel Girl seals the deal for us. The only downside is that, considering its smaller scale, fan favorite choice for Squirrel Girl, Anna Kendrick, almost certainly won't want the role. Oh well.
