'The X-Files' Cast Reunites for a Creepy New Audiobook
Fox
After several years of nothing happening, the recent tenth season of The X-Files proved that the series is still out there. And while there's no official word on a season 11 just yet (only some unofficial words), Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully will be returning in an audiobook out this summer, with their respective actors David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson providing the voices.

Amazon's Audible just announced the new spin-off, called X-Files: Cold Cases, which is due out this summer and lists an impressive amount of actors from the original show. Beyond Duchovny and Anderson as the the stars, Cold Cases is bringing on Mitch Pileggi as FBI Assistant Director Skinner and William B. Davis as the Cigarette Smoking Man, while also including Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, and Bruce Harwood as the lovable conspiracy theorist trio "The Lone Gunmen."

And unlike a regular old book, Audible's official description is promising a "mind-blowing and otherworldly soundscape of liquefying aliens, hissing creatures, and humming spacecraft," to the point where this is beginning to sound more like a radio play than an audiobook. The actual story is based on Joe Harris' X-Files comics and graphic novels (which he's been writing since 2013), and centers around a database breach at the FBI by some mysterious group who wants to exploit X-Files cases. It's set between 2008's I Want to Believe movie and the recent 2016 show.

Here's a teaser featuring most of the cast:

Much like the old show, the recent revival had some very strong points (like "The Were-Monster") and some low points (like whatever forgettable monster was in the next episode), so it's difficult to predict how good the coming audiobook is going to be. But when the X-Files is good, it's some of the best paranormal drama on television, so Cold Cases could easily recapture that magic for the talking books market.

The X-Files: Cold Cases will come out July 18, 2017.
