Jeff Goldblum Talks About His Roles in 'Thor: Ragnarok' and 'Jurassic World 2'

If there's one thing the world needs more of, it's Jeff Goldblum. For the most part, audiences in recent years have been forced to get by on tiny crumbs of Goldblum goodness as he popped his head up every now and then to grace a movie with his stuttering charm. Now, though, the Goldblum drought is over: following last year's Independence Day: Resurgence, we begin to gear up for an appearance from the hedonistic Grand Master in Thor: Ragnarok, followed by the long-awaited return of Dr. Ian Malcolm in Jurassic World 2.

Jeff Goldblum himself is very eager to discuss his roles, and has been waxing lyrical about how much fun he had while working with Ragnarok director Taika Waititi:

Opening quote
"When we first talked, [Waititi] said, "I want you to do your particular version of this character without being comic-y or grandiloquent. I think you should do something that's in your creative family tree. And also improvise." He was very interested in improvisation. We came to all those scenes and riffed enjoyably for the time we had. I don't know what's gonna come out in the mix because we gave him a whole bunch of different choices, I'll tell you that. He's great. Taika Waititi gets 10 Goldblums out of a possible 10 Goldblums."
Closing quote

That's certainly some high praise coming from Goldblum. It does suggest that Ragnarok's trailer is fairly accurate in its depiction of an 80's superhero movie that doesn't take itself too seriously, which may disappoint those who would like to see a Thor movie that doesn't revolve around silliness. That said, the majority of fans are looking forward to an action-adventure comedy with hints of classic Goldblum wit, so it looks increasingly like these fans won't be disappointed.

On the Jurassic front, however, it sounds like we won't be getting quite as much of Dr. Ian Malcolm as we might like, if Goldblum's comments on the subject of Jurassic World 2 prove true:

Opening quote
"Off I go in a few weeks to London, where they've been hard at work, and I'll try to contribute something to the plate of dino-entertainment. I like my character. I think my character is a saucy, sassy man of some integrity and deep thinking. And of course, that whole world continues to be popular, slam-bang, top entertainment."
Closing quote

It sounds like Goldblum views his role in this movie as a relatively small one. This does seem to be the plan for Jurassic World 2, with the movie looking to continue the story of the first Jurassic World's characters, rather than letting Dr. Malcolm butt in and take the limelight. But with talk that this film will take its dinosaurs to somewhere other than the failed theme park, we're betting we're going to see Jeff Goldblum's character in a pivotal role aiding Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard's characters to fend off a potential dinosaur invasion.

Either way, both of these movies are going to feature plenty of Jeff Goldblum charm and wit, and that can only be a good thing.
