There are lots of ways to express yourself as a Star Wars fan. Some more common ways include buying a poster, dressing up for Halloween or cosplaying, sometimes making lightsaber noises while you swing a broom around. Or, you could name your child after the villain from The Force Awakens, as some people are now doing.

According to stats from the Social Security Administration, the name "Kylo" shot up in popularity among babies born in 2015 versus babies born in 2016, now among the top 1000 most popular baby names. Since the name was nowhere near that high before last year, the SSA is pointing its collective finger at the character of Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), the pouty sith-lord-in-training who served as the main antagonist in The Force Awakens at the end of 2015, and who's returning for The Last Jedi at the end of this year.

Whereas in 2015 the name "Kylo" was originally ranked at 3,269 among newborn boys' names, well before the movie came out (our best guess is that several parents misspelled "Kyle"), the 2016 charts ranked Kylo at number 901, just behind "Howard" and just in front of "Eason." So if you have plans to name your child after your Great Grandpa Howard, know you're just one entry away from naming him after Kylo Ren instead.

The idea of pop culture introducing unusual names into the American naming pools isn't a new trend. Since about 2014, "Khaleesi" from Game of Thrones has been rising in popularity, currently ranked at 765 among girls. And much like how "Khaleesi" isn't even Daenerys Targaryen's real name in the story, some parents have decided Kylo Ren sounds cooler than the character's real name of Ben Solo (the name "Benjamin" is much more popular, ranked number 6 among boys).

And Kylo isn't even the most popular Star Wars name, with "Leia" ranked at 321 among girls and "Anakin" at 778 among boys. "Luke" is ranked at 28 among boys, but that was a popular name before Star Wars rolled around. Lastly, "Lucas" is the most popular Star Wars-related name at rank number 14 among boys, but however many parents are naming their sons after George Lucas is a question we can't answer.

Either way, after seeing The Force Awakens, we would not want to be the father of anyone named "Kylo."

Star Wars: The Last Jedi comes out December 15, 2017.
