'Okja' Poster Gives a First Look at the Movie's Strange Monster
Netflix
We know Bong Joon-Ho's upcoming Netflix movie Okja will involve some strange creature at the center of the story, but we've seen much more of Tilda Swinton's villain Lucy Mirando than we have of Okja, the creature itself.

It makes sense to keep the creature mysterious, but it's still good to see Okja's finally getting involved with the marketing for Okja. In our best look yet beyond a small glimpse of its eye in the trailer, we get to see a full silhouette of the monster. As you can see below, it's... some sort of giant, pig-hippo thing.

The fact that it's vaguely porcine does answer some questions about the movie's unusual marketing, though. Swinton's character Mirando is the CEO of some biotech company (since they're always evil in these movies), and Netflix's strange video of Mirando explaining pig dreams before revealing they experiment on pigs makes some more sense now. If Okja is some sort of genetically altered pig, as the symbolic factory on its back in the poster would suggest, it's easy to see why Mirando's pig-altering schemes would then be involved.

Beyond Swinton, the movie will also star Ahn Seo-Hyun, Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, and Steven Yeun. Okja will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, although it spurred Cannes to make a new rule that all of its future films must have theatrical releases. The movie will then release on Netflix on June 28, 2017.
