The Trailer for Fox's 'X-Files' Parody 'Ghosted' Has Arrived
Fox
When we first heard that Fox had greenlit a comedy series that was meant to parody The X-Files, we were pretty excited. When we heard that said series was starring Adam Scott (Parks & Rec) and Craig Robinson (The Office) as a true believer and a skeptic investigating the paranormal, we were extremely excited.

And now that we've seen the first trailer for the show, which is called Ghosted, we're a little less excited, but still willing to give it a shot. The trailer doesn't play up the skeptic-vs-true-believer battle that was at the heart of The X-Files, but hopefully the series itself will.

Instead, this extended first look focuses on the buddy cop dynamic between the two, with Scott being the nerdy, alien-obsessed loser and Robinson portraying the cool guy. The pair are abducted from their normal jobs (Scott works at a bookstore, Robinson's a security guard) by a secretive organization called the Bureau Underground. Why they were chosen we don't know, but they're being forced to investigate the paranormal:

It's revealed early on that Scott's wife was abducted by aliens, or at least he thinks she was, which certainly bring's back memories of Agent Fox Mulder's sister. The video shows off a couple possible "monsters of the week," including what looks like an alien spaceship and a guy who can remove his own head. The trailer is also heavy on the jokes, with lots of sarcastic one-liners and physical gags, and that's unfortunately where it stumbles. The bulk of the jokes don't land all that well (though some do), so here's hoping that the show saved its best bits for the actual episode.

We're holding out hope for a solid pilot, but for now, we maintain that the greatest X-Files parody ever was The Simpsons' season 8 episode "The Springfield Files."

Ghosted premieres this fall on Fox. As for the real deal, X-Files season 11 should premiere sometime next year.
