'Spider-Man: Homecoming' Sequel Begins Just Moments After 'Avengers 4' Ends
Marvel/Sony
We already knew Tom Holland was appearing as Spider-Man in both Avengers: Infinity War next year and its untitled sequel the year after. But apparently, he's going to do quite a bit in those Avengers movies, because they lead directly into an upcoming Spider-Man film.

In an interview with Fandom, producer Amy Pascal revealed that the untitled Infinity War sequel in 2019 (referred to as Avengers 4) will end just moments before the beginning of Spider-Man: Homecoming 2, although Pascal and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige always insist Homecoming 2 is not the movie's final title. Pascal explains:

Opening quote
"What I think we should focus on is this Spider-Man who started in Civil War and then has this movie [Homecoming], and then will be in the Avengers movie [Infinity War]. And we are starting now the next one which will start a few minutes after Avengers 4 wraps as a story."

This makes a lot of sense based on what we know about Marvel's "Phase Four," which is going to be centered around newcomers like Spidey instead of Avengers heavyweights like Iron Man and Captain America. And since Phase Three ends with Avengers 4, the beginning of Phase Four will be Homecoming 2 (the only other Phase Four movie we know about is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3). So making Spider-Man deal with the immediate aftermath of whatever chaos the Avengers cause this time would be a good way to kick off the new MCU.

It also makes sense because Homecoming 2 (or whatever they end up calling it) actually comes out just two months after Avengers 4 - the Avengers movie hits theaters May 3, 2019 while Homecoming 2 follows close behind with a July 5, 2019 release date. So however Avengers 4 ends, it will still be fresh in everyone's memory when the next Spidey movie is out.

Feige draws some parallels to how Spider-Man: Homecoming starts pretty shortly after Captain America: Civil War ended, although it sounds like the beginning of Homecoming 2 (or whatever they end up calling it) will be much more immediately connected to Avengers 4's ending. Feige had said previously of Homecoming 2:

Opening quote
"It was purposefully done like this. Like how the events of Captain America: Civil War impacted Peter as he was dropped off by Tony and expected to go back to continue his sophomore year, how the hell are the events of Infinity War and Untitled [Avengers] going to affect him as he, yes, goes back to his junior year?"
Closing quote

As to what specifically Spidey will have to deal with at the beginning of his next movie, all we know is that Avengers 4 will continue the Thanos storyline in some way, as it was originally called Infinity War Pt. II before the idea was scrapped. While it's unlikely that Peter Parker will face Thanos in a solo Spider-Man movie, having him deal with something that's maybe the death of a certain Avenger who mentored Spidey could be a possible direction. But we won't know for a couple more years.

In the meantime, Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters July 7, 2017.
