Sansa Stark May Give in to Revenge in 'Game of Thrones' Season 7, Says Actress

Let's get one thing straight: based on the fact that she "cried" when she first read the script for Game of Thrones Season 7, there's something big in store for Sophie Turner's character, Sansa Stark. Bear that in mind as you read the latest quote that the actor has given on the future of her character:

Opening quote
"I do wonder if it'd be kind of impossible for this world and all of these people who she's surrounded herself with, of course that would rub off on her. And she'd be learning things from them and since the age of 13 she hasn't been with her family and had those Stark morals reiterated to her on a daily basis. She's had to do that herself and over this period of five years she's been away from her family, she will have one way or another been swept up in this world of betrayal and revenge. I do wonder if she'll falter a little.

She's spent so long trying to survive and see her family again - it's the only thing that's kept her going and motivated, when so many times, she could have given up. So I think she may change a little, but at the end of the day, I think her heart is still good. The way she deals with her problems and her enemies may be different from how she would have dealt with them in the day when she was 13 or so."
Closing quote

While Turner's recent comments are deliberately vague, and include hints that hard times are ahead for Sansa, it seems that she's deliberately withholding some key information about the moral choices that her character will have in the near future. Is Sansa in the process of turning to the Dark Side, even if, underneath it all, she's still a good person? That makes sense, considering the unsavory sorts that have had her ear recently.

Yes, we're talking about Littlefinger. That weasel really needs to get his comeuppance in Season 7.

It's interesting, though, to look at the two main trailers we've had for the upcoming season of Game of Thrones and see how Sansa's position—and the the advice she's been getting from Petyr Baelish, contrast with that Cersei Lannister's current attitude.

The first trailer starts with a voiceover from Cersei, as she lists enemies in the north, south, and other directions. This trailer focuses on the oncoming clan rivalry, which Cersei intends to be at the heart of.

The second trailer, instead, starts with an image of Sansa and a voiceover from Littlefinger as he again encourages her to fight not just in the north and the south, but "everywhere". Littlefinger is deliberately trying to push Sansa to become a copy of Cersei, and to give up her moral standpoint. The rest of the trailer then details Jon Snow's desire to unite the various warring factions across Westeros against their common enemy, showing the alternate path that's open to Sansa if she's willing to embrace it.

It seems that much of Game of Thrones Season 7 will focus around the decisions that Sansa has to make—whether she'll embrace warfare, or whether she'll attempt to forge alliances with the other heroes of the show. Whichever path Sansa decides to take, there'll be far-reaching repercussions for the show as a whole. Don't assume that this will all have a nice, neat resolution at the end of the season.
