'Kingsman: The Golden Circle' TV Spot Shows Channing Tatum's Whip-Cracking Hero
20th Century Fox
The problem with trying to top a movie like Kingsman: The Secret Service is that people will always compare the sequel to the movie that came before. And it's this problem that Matthew Vaughn's upcoming sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle will be facing.

If you've got a film with a montage of exploding heads and an insane fight scene between Colin Firth a slew of religious extremists under the influence of a rage virus, i.e. the first Kingsman movie, it's hard to imagine what could possibly come next to make The Golden Circle worthy of its impressive legacy. Vaughn has an answer to that, though - two simple words which sum up the sequel's game plan: Channing Tatum.

Yup, pop a cowboy hat on the guy from Magic Mike, let him swing a bullwhip around, and you've got a winning movie formula. A new TV spot for the upcoming spy action movie shows just how stylish and savvy The Golden Circle is going to be, thanks in part to the addition of its new characters. And some promotion from a fancy clothing company helps, which is the reason Mr. Porter is included in this clip:

The introduction of the whiskey and cowboy hat-loving Statesman organization, the American parallel to the ultra classy titular Kingsman group, is a smart one. Instead of taking the same characters from the first movie and making them fight some new villain, Matthew Vaughn has instead opted to expand the world, giving us a greater, richer environment full of bigger and better opportunities for colorful mayhem.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, for example, is a lot of fun, but treads a lot of the same ground as the original movie, with essentially the same core group of characters bouncing around. Perhaps Kingsman benefits from having a smaller ensemble cast to begin with, but by throwing in a whole new spy organization with their very own traits, special skills, and dress codes, makes this movie obviously distinct from the first film.

While nobody could have possibly thought that The Golden Circle might be dull, it's clear that this movie is going to build on what's come before to provide a fresh, exciting experience, that features an awful lot of very well-dressed superspies fighting an outlandish villain. And there'll probably be some McDonald's product placement in there alongside all the fancy suit product placement, because that's how this franchise rolls.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle comes out September 27, 2017.
