'Game of Thrones' Set Visit Reveals Spoilers for Season Seven
HBO
Potential spoilers for Game of Thrones season 7 below.

The showrunners behind Game of Thrones probably deserve some recognition for doing such a good job of keeping the majority of the upcoming seventh season under wraps. Spoilers are limited, and with even respected critics being denied early access, HBO is working hard to make sure we don't learn any important plot points before the show returns to televisions.

Of course, the less information that's available, the more Game of Thrones fans will read into every potential clue. The truly die hard fans are an enterprising bunch, and will find potential spoilers wherever they may lie - including tucked inside a report from a set visit in Time Magazine. In the article, Daniel D'Addario makes a few offhand comments about what he's observed being filmed, which are, of course, all it takes to whip up a storm of fan interest.

According to D'Addario, a pack of live (but obviously very well trained) wolves were on set for one day that he observed, looking awkwardly lustrous and well-groomed despite needing to look "skinny and mangy" for the episode.

It's natural to suspect that these wolves might well be from the pack led by Nymeria, who we last saw all the way back in season one when she was forced to part ways with her owner, Arya Stark. These wolves are one element of the Song of Ice and Fire novels that haven't been as important in the TV show, presumably because wrangling wolves isn't exactly an easy process. Which is why most of them are dead now.

It seems, though, that season seven will be filled with rewards for viewers who've been paying attention since the beginning - what's more, the big, epic battle scenes that we've been promised are apparently going to be spiced up with not just human combatants, but a series of animals as well.

Take, for example, the second revelation of the Time article - the fact that Daenerys is going to be involved in a frozen, wintry battle, riding upon the largest of her dragons. Apparently, there's a good chance that Jon Snow will also be in attendance for this particular action scene, which leads to all kinds of fun speculation about what the pair might be fighting.

The trailers for this season of Game of Thrones have been teasing the fraught politics of Westeros, and the fact that Jon Snow is trying to form an alliance, while other leaders across the region are more interested in fighting each other. If Jon and Dany are sharing a battlefield, this could either mean that they've patched up the differences between their sides, or that they're at each other's throats.

It's reasonable to assume that we'll see a bit of both in the upcoming season, as the various factions - with all their animal friends - wobble between friendship and infighting, as the White Walkers amass to sweep up anyone who's too distracted to stop them. In other words, as has been suggested, the upcoming season of Game of Thrones is going to be like a regular season, but ten times bigger, and twice as fast-paced.
