Compared with former directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord, new Han Solo overseer Ron Howard isn't exactly known for wacky hijinks. It's hard to imagine the director of Frost/Nixon pulling pranks alongside Warwick Davis in the same way that his predecessors did. This isn't to say that Howard is without humor, as evidenced by the fact that he's messing around with fans by posting cryptic guessing games in the form of wardrobe photos on social media.

While we have yet to see any official scenes from Han Solo just yet, Howard's glimpse at the costumes we'll be seeing in this movie should titillate fans a bit longer. Here's the first photo:

So whose wardrobe are we looking at here? This doesn't look like the kind of getup that everyone's favorite Corellian smuggler would wear, nor does it match with what we've seen of Woody Harrelson's stern mustachioed space pirate on set thus far.

The logical guess, then, is that this is the flamboyant wardrobe of a certain card-playing gambler and smooth-talking scoundrel that'll be played by none other than Atlanta's Donald Glover.

The other angle on the same wardrobe seemingly confirms it—there's only one character in the Star Wars universe that's dapper enough to wear a dark blue cape with golden patterns. Take away the embellishments, and this looks almost exactly like Lando Calrissian's cloak from The Empire Strikes Back, which is no doubt why Howard is so eager to give fans a teaser of this particular character's wardrobe choices.

There are few elements of the Han Solo movie that are as important as the costumes—particularly for legacy characters that have been bouncing around in the public consciousness for decades. To really believe Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, fans need to see him swaggering about in the familiar red-trimmed blue pants and boots, instead of whatever frayed get-up he was wearing in the first leaked set photos.

Donald Glover has the benefit of being a more established actor, and as such, fans haven't been quite as skeptical about seeing him take over for Billy Dee Williams. Even so, putting him in anything other than a resplendent blue cape would feel like sacrilege at this point in Star Wars history. With all the drama surrounding the Han Solo movie, the costumes, sets, and props are quickly becoming a kind of anchor, providing reassurance that, don't worry, the movie's filming might be chaotic, but at least it looks the part.

While Ron Howard has a huge a job ahead of him, he's probably taking a lot of comfort in the fact that the simple promise of seeing Lando Calrissian swish around in his iconic cloak is enough to get fans excited.

The Han Solo movie is set to release in US theaters on May 25th, 2018.
