'Justice League' Comic-Con Footage Introduces the Villainous Steppenwolf
Warner Bros.
Just like most Justice League trailers, teasers, posters, and everything else, the big theme here is "heroes uniting."

Right in the middle of the many, many new teasers and trailers that have come out during San Diego Comic-Con, four minutes of new Justice League footage came out, almost hidden due to the sheer volume of stuff being revealed this weekend at SDCC. While much of this is typical "heroes uniting" fare, to the point where "Come Together" is reused from the previous trailer, we do get a look at Steppenwolf and that is something new.

Played by Ciarán Hinds (Game of Thrones' Mance Rayder), Steppenwolf is one of Darkseid's generals from Apokolips, and he looks how you'd expect: still visibly like the Steppenwolf from the comics and still wearing his horned helmet, but otherwise much more gray and less colorful, because this is the DC Extended Universe after all. Check out the footage below:

As is often the case in expanded universes like the DCEU, the most interesting parts were often the little hints: Steppenwolf comments that without any "Lanterns or Kryptonians," the Earth is a very easy target. While it's unlikely that Green Lantern will appear in any major role - there's no way the trailers would resist showing that kind of twist, so we'd probably know about it by now - the Justice League can't go on forever without them, whether it's Hal Jordan or John Stewart. Or both, as both are appearing in the eventual Green Lantern Corps movie.

The Penguin also gets a brief shoutout during a conversation between Alfred and Bruce Wayne. It's entirely possible this could become Ben Affleck's final performance as Batman, because both Affleck and Warner Bros. seem interested in replacing the Dark Knight. But nothing's confirmed yet on that front.

Otherwise, the trailer is the usual mixture of fight scenes - Wonder Woman saves schoolchildren, Cyborg commandeers the Batmobile, etc. - alongside shots of the heroes being heroic, and also some fun scenes for good measure. After all, we'd be amiss if we didn't mention that scene toward the end where Commissioner Gordon (J.K. Simmons in a decidedly non-J. Jonah Jameson role) turns around to see all the heroes have vanished except poor Flash. He's new to this.

And lastly, don't forget to check out the new poster that came out earlier in the day. Note the Superman logo in there, because obviously Superman is going to appear in this movie. Green Lantern is still a "maybe," but definitely the Kryptonian.

Justice League hits theaters November 17, 2017.
