Get ready for more big, lumpy metal biceps in the future of the Deadpool franchise, because Colossus is going to be explored further in the upcoming sequel. Stefan Kapicic, who voices Piotr Rasputin in the original Deadpool, has stated that a lot of fans' burning questions about the character will be answered when Colossus makes his triumphant return for the new follow-up:

Opening quote
"[Colossus] didn't have time at all in the X-Men movies and he's one of the iconic characters. He needed that space, and thank God [Director] Tim Miller and Ryan and Fox decided to give him a spot, which will continue to grow. That's the thing I can say … the sequel will answer many questions, which people are asking right now. Because all the questions I can see on the net are answered in the sequel."
Closing quote

There's certainly nothing bad about seeing more of Colossus in Deadpool 2. Considering the movie will add popular heroes like Domino and Cable, alongside a rather obscure X-Men character in the form of Black Tom Cassidy, it had been assumed that Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead would quietly fade into the background for part two. We've already heard, though, that we'll apparently see Negasonic Teenage Warhead take on a "cooler" role in the second movie, so news that Colossus will similarly be given a larger part to play doesn't come as a huge surprise, and is good news for anyone who grew up reading about his adventures in X-Men comics, and who've been disappointed by his lackluster movie appearances.

If there's a problem that the X-Men franchise as a whole has suffered from (apart from wildly varying levels of overall story quality), it's squeezing too many heroes into each film, purely for the sake of showing off as many super powers as possible, to the detriment of actual character development. Colossus appears in three X-Men prime series movies (X2The Last Stand, and Days of Future Past) and each time, he says almost nothing—he's just there to look tough and occasionally toss Wolverine into the midst of danger. As such, a little more screen time for the comic book-accurate incarnation of Colossus in the Deadpool continuity will be welcome—even if he is, as Deadpool himself points out, one of the only heroes the first movie's budget would allow for.

The trick to making a good Deadpool 2—as well as the subsequent X-Force that will introduce more new characters—will be in balancing everyone so that Deadpool can insult and annoy each character equally. Otherwise, the movie would be better off having a smaller number of heroes that each get more opportunities to roll their eyes at Ryan Reynolds' never-ending stream of off-color improv. Fingers crossed that having more Colossus will prove to be a good thing—this is one comic book character that really deserves more time in the limelight.
