Domino's 'Deadpool 2' Costume Revealed in Classic Ryan Reynolds Fashion
Marvel
In some Deadpool 2 news, our first look at Zazie Beetz (Atlanta) as the superhuman mercenary Domino is here, and she looks pretty darn awesome.

And just like many other reveals surrounding Deadpool and its upcoming sequel, Ryan Reynolds himself broke the news by sharing a photo on Twitter that looks awfully familiar, if you remember Deadpool's fireside pose from way back in the first movie:

There are three key pieces of information which jump out from this picture upon inspection.

First off, the hair - it's not often we get to see a fashion style like this in superhero movies. Black Panther is dripping with Afro-Futurism, but giving Domino a huge, beautiful afro like this makes for a really unique and fun take on the character, and additionally, helps to further separate the Deadpool franchise from every other film in this overcrowded genre. There obviously aren't enough women of color in these movies to begin with, so letting Domino reflect an underrepresented culture is a wonderful way to make this character special.

Second: the pose. Those who know their Deadpool ads can't help but spot that this is an exact recreation of the reveal of the Merc with a Mouth's costume, all the way back in 2015. Then, like now, the news was broken by Reynolds on Twitter, who shared a photo of his character reclining on a bearskin rug.

Clearly, some photoshop wizardry was used to make these pictures look so similar - the fire behind Beetz is clearly the same image as we see in Ryan Reynolds' version. It seems as if the message we're meant to take from this new photo is that Domino, as she appears in Deadpool 2, will be a similar wise-cracking antihero, who serves as a foil for Wade Wilson to the point of providing a mirror to his wackiness.

That said, don't expect the pair to be equals. The third detail from this picture that only jumps out after everything else has registered in the viewer's brain: the Deadpool-skin rug that Domino is lying on. Because of the similarity to the Ryan Reynolds picture, it's easy to assume that Domino is reclined on a bearskin like before, but nope. Clearly, she and Wade Wilson won't get along quite as well as Wade and Josh Brolin's Cable, and those two just barely get along as it is.

All of this combines to make one thing very, very clear: Domino is about to become plenty of comic book movie fans' favorite character in the Deadpool series, assuming she goes on to appear in the eventual X-Force movie. Here's another photo from Beetz's Instagram:
