New York's New Museum Transforms Into A Spaceship Next Month

A New York City museum is transforming a whole floor of exhibition space into a spaceship module next month, giving visitors a chance to transport themselves into a world of retro science fiction. The New Museum, located in Manhattan's Lower East Side will transform its entire 5th floor into a spaceship inspired by the 1960's Czech science fiction movie Ikarie XB-1 as part of an exhibition titled Report on the Construction of a Spaceship Module.

"The exhibition offers an allegory of 'anthropological science fiction,' where the space becomes an estranged an exciting universe that dramatizes the cross-cross cultural translation involved in the presentation of art," explains the museums site.

The spaceship will be surrounded by 117 artworks spanning various media, including video, sculpture and print. Don't be put off by the modern art concept of this installation though, this is an exhibition that can not only feed your cultural side but also make you feel like you have travelled back in time to the set of an Eastern-European sci-fi movie. And who doesn't want to experience that?!

The installation will be in place at the New Museum from January 22nd 2014 until April 6th 2014, so if you're in town around then, this is definitely worth a visit.
