Sci-Fi Hotel And H.R Giger Bar Coming To The USA

Sci-Fi Hotel founder Andy Davies describes his vision as a "cat tree for geeks", but the announcement that the proposed hotel will now house a bar modelled on the works of sci-fi legend H.R Giger would make it so much more than that. Put together, the Sci-Fi Hotel and H.R Giger Bar would be the new geek Mecca, rivalling even the famed annual celebration that is San Diego Comic Con.

Surrealist artist H.R Giger is probably best known for his work that helped shape the legendary 'Alien' films but, for many, their fascination with him goes so much further. Indeed, a bar based on the works of Giger is already up and running at the Museum H.R Giger in Chateau Gruyere, Switzerland, a fully fledged tribute to one of the masters of the surreal. The museum bar will strike a chord with anyone even half-familiar with Giger's work, with great arcs of bones and shapes now synonymous with the 'Alien' movie franchise creating one of the most unique drinking experiences in the world. It is this strikingly dark theme that Andy Davies and the team behind the Sci-Fi Hotel hope to recreate when the project lands in the U.S. And, while Davies hasn't quite settled on a first location for his ambitious project, he has admitted that some cities have moved to the head of the queue.

"Right now it's Seattle and New York, with San Francisco, Chicago and New Orleans following closely behind." Davies told C.Net. "But I also see a fit in the middle of the New Mexico desert at Spaceport USA. If you're gonna build a spaceport-looking hotel, might as well build it at a spaceport right? Imagine the sci-fi conventions out there; those would be truly out there!"

While Davies has grand visions of multiple Sci-Fi hotels across the country, he and his team remain focused on getting the first one up and running. The Sci-Fi Hotel is currently seeking real-estate and development partners, and with the burgeoning interest in the genre, it would be hard look past the massive potential of such an enterprise.

When it does finally open, Davies intends The Sci-Fi Hotel to be more than just a place to rest your head for the night. One-of-a-kind artworks will be commissioned and rooms will feature one of the most comprehensive collections of sci-fi movies, TV and video games ever assembled....sounds like absolute heaven to me!
