5 DC Comics Movies Rumored To Be In The Works

It's hard to keep up with all the Comic Book movie adaptations regardless of whether they are real or rumored. Since Marvel started the huge expansion of their cinematic universe, some might say that their big rival, DC comics have been scrabbling to catch up. DC's Batman vs Superman will grab most of the headlines in the run up to its 2015 release, however the rumor mill is in full spin with other potential DC movies. Here are 5 DC comics movies that could be coming to theaters in the next few years:

1. Justice League

We'll start with the biggest and most obvious of all DC movie rumors. In addition to the fact that it would be to DC what Avengers is to Marvel, there are so many reasons for a Justice League movie to happen. The relative success of Man of Steel and the insane hype behind its sequel, Batman vs Superman, proves that there is a hunger for a multi-character DC comics movie. Furthermore, with Wonder Woman also set to make an appearance, Batman vs Superman would act as the perfect platform for a Justice League movie with 3 of the League's biggest stars being introduced. If this were to happen (which it will), DC comics would be opting to have a Justice League movie serve as the jumping point for a whole host of character origin stories, many of which are already rumored to be in the works....

2. Flash

The idea of a movie based on Flash has, for a long time now, been rumored to be on the cards. But since the announcement of Barry Allen's appearance on CW's 'Arrow', these rumours have become slightly more relevant. Could it be that DC are hoping to build up some steam behind the Flash origin story with a view to a big screen adaptation? It is expected that a Barry Allen/Flash spin-off TV series will arrive within the year, but would this muddy the waters for a Justice League movie?  Will Grant Gustin play both the TV and Movie iterations of Flash or will DC try to keep the two worlds separate? All too confusing? We'll just chuck in the name of Wally West (the third Flash) for good measure. Whichever way you look at it, the likelihood of a Flash movie is looking overwhelmingly like a certainty.

3. Wonder Woman

With the announcement that Wonder Woman would be appearing in Batman vs Superman and the casting of Gal Gadot the chances of a Wonder Woman feature film increased astronomically. In the lead-up to those announcements, DC Comics were under a huge amount of pressure to bring Wonder Woman to the big screen with fans craving a female superhero story. To be honest, this one looks so likely it shouldn't even fall under the 'rumored' category anymore, but until DC comics confirm it, that is where it shall remain filed. All that's left to debate is how the Wonder Woman story will be told, with some suggesting that DC and Warner Bros. are tweaking her origin to make her of Kryptonian descent, which would be controversial indeed.

4. Aquaman

Yes, believe it or not, the much maligned Aquaman is rumored to be getting his own origin story. Only today it was reported that Game of Thrones behemoth, Jason Momoa, is in line to play the King of Atlantis in a Justice League movie cameo that would lead to an Aquaman feature film. Admittedly, this is probably the hardest sell of all movies on this list. While Aquaman was a mainstay of the Justice League and does have a fervent following, it would be hard for it not to end up a little bit like this right?

5. Green Lantern

Wait! Before you roll your eyes and click away, give this some thought. Yes, the Ryan Reynolds-led Green Lantern movie was not everyone's cup of tea, but this is a character that is pivotal to the Justice League, so it isn't ridiculous to suggest Warner Bros. might take another stab at this. Whether it will be a 'Green Lantern 2' or a total reboot of the character is yet to be seen, but if a Justice League movie is going ahead, you can bet your house on another Green Lantern feature film being made. Besides, there is still so much to explore in the Green Lantern story, which means that whoever took on the project would have more than enough entertaining material to work with. Ryan Reynolds is apparently not keen to reprise the role, but how about Idris Elba?
