Lionsgate and Saban Confirm Live Action Power Rangers Film In Works

Big news kids, Lionsgate and Saban Brands are officially teaming up to bring an all new, live-action Power Rangers movie to the big screen. Power Rangers creator Haim Saban and Lionsgate Pictures CEO Jon Feltheimer made the announcement today, successfully answering the pleas from the significant Power Rangers fan base that were no doubt inspired by last year's monster mash, Pacific Rim.

"Lionsgate is the perfect home for elevating our Power Rangers brand to the next level," said Saban. "They have the vision, marketing prowess and incredible track record in launching breakthrough hits from The Hunger Games to Twilight and Divergent. In partnership with the Lionsgate team, we're confident that we will capture the world of the Power Rangers and translate it into a unique and memorable motion picture phenomenon with a legacy all of its own."

With over two decades of Power Rangers legend to pull from, it's not quite clear which way the movie will be taken, but with Lionsgate in control, the its prospects for success are greatly heightened. With Godzilla looking on course for box-office success and a second Pacific Rim movie being called for by fans, Power Rangers could find a home among popcorn actioners, not to mention the fervent fan-base it has built up since the 1993 debut of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

A live-action Power Rangers movie with a decent production budget won't just be a hit with the kids of today though, it should also to prove incredibly popular with those who grew up watching the likes of Rita Repulsa and her Putty Patrollers terrorize the perfectly diverse spandexed warriors. In the years since, the likes of Diabolico, Astronema and the Psycho Rangers have all been terrorizing an ever changing line-up of Power Rangers heroes, which means that truly, the options are limitless.

Did we ask for this movie, heck no. But will we watch it? You're damn right we will!
