Channing Tatum Will Play Gambit In Future X-Men Films, Deadpool Is Coming
Ladies, Gambit is back and he's got some moves. Magic Mike star Channing Tatum has been confirmed as the new Gambit for future X-Men movies, sending a ripple of despair through fan forums everywhere. Tatum's appointment was confirmed by Lauren Schuler Donner in an interview with Total Film at the X-Men X-Perience Global Tour in London last night.
When asked about what characters she was looking to bring to the big-screen in the future, Schuler Donner mentioned both Deadpool and Gambit before confirming that Tatum was indeed the future cajun card-slinger. The producer didn't go quite as fars as confirming that Tatum's Gambit would be appearing in X-Men Apocalypse, but with the actor on the books already, it would be a bit of a shock if he wasn't present for the 2016 release. Of course, the other possibility would be a solo Gambit film, which could serve to prop up the X-Men franchise once Hugh Jackman's Wolverine leaves the scene.
Arguably more exciting than this Tatum announcement is the tease about Deadpool. Does this mean that Schuler Donner and co. have finally caved in to the massive fan-pressure and committed to a Deadpool movie? Probably not just yet, but we'll settle for an X-Force movie with him in. Which actor could deliver the best performance as the Merc with the Mouth?
