Kyle MacLachlan Cast As Key Character in Second Season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Kyle MacLachlan has been cast in the upcoming season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., as a character who may solve one of the show's biggest mysteries.
Spoilers after the jump!
MacLachlan, best known for his role as FBI agent Dale Cooper in cult classic Twin Peaks, will be playing the father of super hacker Skye, played by Chloe Bennet. Skye's parentage was one of the central mysteries of last season; she grew up in an orphanage, she joined S.H.I.E.L.D. partially to learn more about her parents, and, most intriguingly, last season she was designated an "0-8-4" or an "object of unknown origin," leaving fans to wonder exactly who, or what, she is. Even better, the season finale ended with Raina telling an unseen, blood-soaked man that she had "found his daughter," and showing him a picture of Skye. So it's safe to say that MacLachlan's reveal will be central to the plot of the upcoming season.
MacLachlan is becoming a veritable TV veteran; in addition to Twin Peaks, he's had significant roles in Sex and the City, Desperate Housewives, Portlandia, How I Met Your Mother, and the recent and short-lived J.J. Abrams vehicle Believe. He will join other new additions Lucy Lawless, who will be playing agent Isabelle Hartley, and Reed Diamond as villainous Hydra member Kraken.
The second season premieres on ABC on September 23.
