Instagram For Sci-Fi Fans - App Turns Photos Into Futuristic Works Of Art

When Instagram first launched in October 2010, it rapidly became one of the most powerful forms of social media in the world. For four years now, the photo sharing app has been helping people make every day scenes look as if they are snapshot from times gone by. But what do you do when retro gets old? What do you do if you prefer images of the future to images of the past? Well, thanks to IOS app developers Pixite there's now an app for that.

According to Pixite, their new app, Matter, "lets you alter the reality of your photos by adding 3D overlays with amazing effects." And trust us, it's exactly as cool as it sounds.

Allowing users to choose from dozens of effects, Matter takes the Instagram photo alteration game to a whole new level by allowing you to overlay animated objects onto your otherwise static landscape. Matter's stock of overlays ranges from basic geometric forms to more complex futuristic structures, and best of all, they can interact seamlessly with their environment when animated.

The level of detail piled into Matter is pretty impressive. The app contains a special feature that can calculate an overlayed object's distance from the ground along with the direction of light in the static image to create an accurate representation of shadows. Features like this all add up to make an app that doesn't just allow users modify their run of the mill images, it allows users to create art.

Matter is currently available on iOS platforms only.
