Four New TV Spots for Interstellar Reveal the Dynamics of Wormhole Travel

Most of the Interstellar trailers have kept plot details relatively mum, but these new TV spots (all of which have different and new footage) reveals some of the film's ideas about interplanetary time dilation.

These spots reveal that seven years will pass on Earth for every hour that passes on the supposedly habitable planet that may save the human race from extinction. This adds an interesting ticking clock wrinkle to the plot; previous trailers have made the film seem ruminative and possibly slow-moving, but as Matthew McConaughey's character states, "Our mission does not work if the people on Earth are dead by the time we pull it off."

This detail also confirms the consistency of casting the 37-year-old Jessica Chastain to play the daughter of 44-year-old McConaughey. It seems that this time dilation will be central to McConaughey's emotional conflict in the film; as Anne Hathaway's character puts it, he has to "decide between seeing [his] children again, and the fate of the human race."

Interstellar comes out on November 7.
