Robert Downey Jr. Confirms Iron Man 4 is In Production
Robert Downey Jr. appeared on the Ellen show today, and was unsurprisingly asked if he was working on Iron Man 4. At first, he toed the party line and remained coy, saying, "I know there's going to be more Marvel movies, and they have big ideas of how to do it best. We're in the middle of negotiations, blah blah blah." But then she asked, "So, yes?" and he folded, "Okay, yes."
This news shouldn't be surprising, considering that Iron Man 3 is the sixth-highest-grossing film of all time. But his comments imply that he will continue to play the snarky billionaire, which was up in the air after his initial Marvel contract ran out with the third film. It seems that there will be a renegotiation of Downey Jr.'s contract, which will likely be difficult considering that Marvel is famously thrifty and the star's career is at an all-time high.
He also discussed his Sherlock 3 project during his Reddit AMA, which seems to be perpetually in development: "Yes, we have a Sherlock 3 in development. We want it to be the best of the series, so that's a pretty tall order. Also, Perry Mason is a property I'm looking forward to developing further, going back to the 1931 book series…similarly to what we did with the first 2 Sherlocks, mining the original material for things that are 'new.'"
