Andy Serkis Will Not Be Playing Multiple Characters In Star Wars: The Force Awakens

When it comes to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, there are countless sources of intrigue for fans to mull over between now and the movie's release, but one of the most popular questions has been the nature of Andy Serkis's role in the project. We already know that it was Serkis who did the voiceover for the recent teaser trailer, but who or what that character is, remains uncertain. In fact, there has been so much curiosity around Serkis's part in The Force Awakens that a number of theories have emerged, most notably the one that suggests the mo-cap master will be playing multiple characters, one of which will be leading a team of acrobats. In an interview with EW, Serkis attempted to clear these rumors up.

When asked about the rumor that he would be playing multiple characters, Serkis responded "Not true at all...I can say I only play one character.". Unfortunately, despite the interview being titled "10 things Andy Serkis Can Say About Star Wars: The Force Awakens', that was really where the big reveals ended. Serkis did quash the rumors that 'The Force Awakens' was not always going to be the movie's tagline and confirmed he would definitely not be leading an army of gymnasts or acrobats, but other than that, the actor had to remain tight lipped.

Serkis rightly pointed out that the secrecy surrounding JJ Abrams production was not put in place to kill the buzz of Star Wars fans, quite the opposite in fact. "...it's about not wanting to spoil anything for anyone,"said Serkis. "The expectation is massive, and nobody wants to ruin it in any way. I think that's right. No one wants to, by saying the wrong thing or being misleading, you don't want to dilute it."

One final interesting tidbit was the revelation that Serkis's voice was not altered for the teaser trailer and everything was completely natural, which is pretty darned impressive.
