New Agent Carter TV Spot Reveals Avengers: Age of Ultron Connection

The Agent Carter showrunners have been teasing a "super cool" connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for quite a while, and we thought we had our answer in the form of the Howling Commandos. Now, a new TV spot for "The Iron Ceiling" has revealed that Peggy will not only encounter the Howling Commandos, but will come face-to-face with a nefarious organization that will likely be seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Spoilers follow!

This confirms it: Peggy will face off with the Black Widow Program when she travels to Russia in this week's episode. Suspicions had already been confirmed that Dottie was part of the Black Widow program after her crazy takedown last week, and the swath of little girls learning to kill are very obviously a reference to Black Widow's origin story. Although we haven't officially heard that the Black Widow program will play into Avengers: Age of Ultron, the short clip of little ballerinas seemed to heavily imply it.

In the comics, Natasha Romanova was raised in a U.S.S.R. early childhood spy program called the "Black Widow program." While under the program's wing, Natasha was brainwashed, trained in combat, and was biologically enhanced by a serum that affords her unusually long life and enhanced reflexes. The flash to ballet training in the Avengers: Age of Ultron is thought to be a reference to Black Widow's origin story, as the Black Widow program implanted false memories of ballerina training as part of Natasha's brainwashing. And since her life is unnaturally prolonged, she would be a young girl in the 40's, and so there's a remote possibility that we'll see a young Black Widow in Agent Carter, but that's just speculation at this point.

The next episode of Agent Carter, "The Iron Ceiling," will air tomorrow night at 9pm on ABC, and Avengers: Age of Ultron will come out on May 1.
